Study on the influence of extracurricular activities on academic achievement of primary school students

Abstract

This paper explores the influence of extra-curricular activities on pupils' academic achievement, aiming to reveal the important role that extra-curricular activities play in promoting pupils' all-round development and the potential mechanism of their influence on their academic achievement. The article summarizes the definition, classification, function and significance of extra-curricular activities, and analyzes the development status of extra-curricular activities in primary school students and the preliminary understanding of the relationship between extra-curricular activities and academic achievement. By analyzing the specific effects of extracurricular activities on time management, learning interest and motivation, learning methods and strategies, social ability and cooperative spirit, this paper constructs a multi-dimensional mechanism for extracurricular activities to affect academic performance. However, at present, the implementation of extra-curricular activities also faces some problems, such as improper time allocation, uneven quality of activities, insufficient teacher guidance and parents' misunderstanding, which restrict the positive impact of extra-curricular activities on academic performance to a certain extent. In response to the above problems, this paper puts forward specific countermeasures such as optimizing time management, improving the quality of activities, strengthening teachers' guidance and correcting parents' understanding, in order to provide references for educational practitioners, promote the positive interaction between primary school students' extracurricular activities and academic performance, and realize the all-round development of students.
